Help a Hero
Help a Hero is a public fundraising website built for firefighters and first responders. When one of our members is in a crisis, Local 36 sets up a campaign there for them and posts the link here, so the membership knows where to give.

- Anyone can tell us a member needs help, using the request-help form and ticking Help a Hero.
- Local 36 reviews the request. Nothing is posted without that.
- Local 36 creates the member's campaign on the Help a Hero website and posts the link here and on the member's pages.
- You tap the link, give on the Help a Hero site, and the money goes to the member. Local 36 never handles money in this app.
Why Help a Hero instead of a GoFundMe
- Built for us. Help a Hero exists for firefighters and first responders, not for every cause on the internet.
- Vetted. Local 36 confirms the need and sets up the campaign, so members know their money is going where they meant it to.
- One place. Every Local 36 campaign is listed on this page, so nobody has to hunt through group texts for the right link or wonder if a link is real.
Campaigns are set up and approved by Local 36. Questions go to the Local's officers; this page is only the front door. This is a Local 36 tool to help members help members. It is not an official DC FEMS or DC.gov system; the trade itself is only official once the Form 163 is in TeleStaff.
